NOTE: TO PRINT OUT THESE INSTRUCTIONS,

AND SELECT "PRINT"

Highlight the text in your story by dragging the mouse over the the text as you depress the left button on the mouse.

 

 

 

 

Copy the highlighted text by entering "Ctrl" and "c" at the same time. The "Ctrl" button is located on the bottom left and bottom right of your keyboard.

In Apple Macintosh, enter "Apple" and "c" at the same time.

 

 

 

Open your Microsoft Word" program by going to the "start" button on your computer and locating the Microsoft Word" program.

Open a blank document and paste the the story into the blank document by entering "Ctrl" "v" [depressing both buttons at the same time].

In Apple Macintosh, enter "Apple" and "v" at the same time.

Now, you're ready to run a word count or assess readability of the story.

 

To do a word count, go up to "Tools" on the menu bar and select "Word Count."

 

 

 

 

 

To figure out how hard the story is, you will need to set up your "Spelling and Grammar" options under the "Tools" part of your Microsoft Word" program.

Go to tools and select, "Options", which is near the bottom of that menu.

 

 

 

Next, go to the "Spelling & Grammar" tab and select "Show readability statistics."

 

Now, you're ready to check the readability of any document you import into Microsoft Word".

 

 

 

To do that, run spell check on your document by going up to "Tools" and selecting "Spelling and Grammar."

 

The program will generate a result that includes readability.
